if it's needed. i know the republican governor there is pressuring, there's pressure on boston, if it qualifies for a recount they would like the romney folks not ask for one. >> well, that's some real reporting. thank you very much, chuck todd, as always. joining me now, chris cillizza, msnbc political analyst. chris cillizza, what about the fiscal cliff and negotiations? what do you think the president is doing and planning and how engaged personally will he be in trying to avoid what obviously is a messy way to start a second term? >> well i think that chuck is right, there are still -- they are making sure that everyone on their team is kind of decided where they want to go. my guess would be, andrea, he's actually pretty engaged only because he's learned the lessons of his first term particularly on health care where it was sort of a well let's let congress work its will and we'll step in and get a bill together and get something done. obviously that process took a lot longer than the white house would have liked. it was significantly more contentious than the white house

flooding up near boston and down towards cape cod where there will also be big winds to 65 miles an hour. that's going to be a problem. but let's talk about that snow for a minute. if you take a look right outside our own studios here at cnbc, you are actually going to see that there are leaves still on the trees. as the snow flies and eventually the temperature drops to freezing and below, it's this kind of scene that is the major issue, meaning we are going to see those tree limbs coming down as they fill up with a few inches of wet snow. thus, the economic impact could be very considerable. from additional power outages to the same exact spot that's just recovering right now. so that's what we'll be watching throughout the afternoon. again, it does appear several inches of snow anywhere to the north and west of new york city, even up into southern new england. we'll be with you throughout the day into this evening watching the nor'easter. >> todd, thank you very much. >>> on deck, a complete sector by sector rundown of the downturn in a way that only "street signs" can. >>> let's take

's private investment firm in boston. but he's not joining the firm. so he's going to have an office in those offices, but not be a part of the firm. so what does this equal? that equals to he still has a day job. and if you do look at how president obama has handled himself as president, he has sort of cultivated this team of rivals atmosphere within this administration. he had a hard fought campaign with hillary clinton. and then he went on to make her secretary of state. does that mean he's going to name mitt romney to his cabinet? i talked to a democratic official who told me she would be shocked if that were to occur. and that this -- this should be an interesting discussion when you look at some of the things that mitt romney said in the days after the election. he had that conference call with those donors where he talked about, well, the president won because he was giving out gifts to minority groups and so forth. so there may be some fence mending going on, but there may also be a discussion of ideas. mitt romney talked about ideas during the campaign, that the president says he res
